Desperate Measures (Yin)

Snowfall

The night was dark with moon being almost completely covered in clouds. The air was crisp yet just chilly enough for Snowfall to shiver as she continued on her path. There was prey scurrying quickly away from her in startled flashes of movement. Snowfall paid them no attention, they were a distraction.

The Airbender Guardian was getting worse and their Medicine Cat had exhausted everything she knew. As the ones connected to the Avatar that had abandoned them died off, panic ensued further. Though deep down, Snowfall had this feeling. She was no longer the young she-cat that she once was and with that came a wisdom of life. Her heart ached for the older Guardian, there was too much heartbreak. Usually the next Avatar would be born by now but everything was off because of the current one's abandonment. It wasn't customary for the Avatar to outlive all of his Guard, at least one or two outlived him or her to offer guidance.

As the other Clans were starting to get anxious and greedy, taking the opportunity to the fullest; Snowfall was fighting to keep AirClan true to their nature. With the worsening condition of the Guardian, Snowfall had decides it was time for desperate measures. The white she-cat had used her Airbending abilities to sneak out of the camp and search for the Guru herself.

With her age, this wasn't the first time that Snowfall had sought out Valerianheart. She knew where to find him. She also knew him well enough to know that he would come immediately as well as recognizing the hidden meaning behind her visit as well.

After a particularly difficult leap, Snowfall huffed and paused to catch her breathe, "This was so much easier ten moons ago." Snowfall complained quietly, pushing herself back onto her paws, determination in her bearing and posture. A movement made her start, " You heard that, didn't you, old friend?" Snowfall rolled her eyes in a teasing manner as she settled down again, wrapping her tail around her paws. The white she-cat dipped her head deeply, "There is much to discuss, Guru Valerianheart. Time is not on our side."

Valerian never remained in the same place for long. There would be moons where he would camp near the Moonpool, and there would be moons where he would occupy the small caves littered throughout the mountains. Sometimes, he would spend nights at the base of the mountains, and other times he would find himself in various spots in the forest or near the twolegplace. It was often when he knew he would be needed that he would change his current place of residence to accommodate whoever would be visiting. This was why he found himself silently climbing down the steeper parts of the mountain in the middle of the night.

Moons upon moons of climbing up and down these mountains made his trek easy. Smooth, well-placed movements that made him seemingly glide over the rough terrain: you might never suspect him to be an older cat. Six cycles is still young, mind you. The Guru flicked his ears in amusement as he jumped down from another rock. A feathery form hopped down after him, taking the long way down with the cat. You could just fly, you know. Actually, please do that. Find our guest and make sure she doesn't get lost. The small falcon spread her wings and took off not a moment later, soaring overhead and tilting her head to peer down at the world below. She began circling the moment she found the other cat.

Good, good. Just on time.

Without wasting another moment, he continued down the mountain, rounding a boulder and a lone tree before his pace slowed. His ears perked, and a soft chuckle rumbled in his throat. "You still have many moons left in you, my dear. If you convince your mind that the body is becoming incapable, then it will become your truth." Blue eyes gleamed in the moonlight as the clouds briefly drifted away. His tail raised high as he drew near, circling around the she-cat once before he sat down before her. "Time takes no sides. It continues to flow like an undisturbed river."

His ears twitched with feigned annoyance as he quickly huffed out, "And, how many times have I told you not to call me that? So stuffy!"

Snowfall

The pure white she-cat heard the other cat approaching before she saw him. This Guru was still young as far as the others like him. His chuckle was soft as he stepped into view. A light colored tom with pale yet bright blue eyes appeared and circled Snowfall once before sitting beside her. His words were interesting, a truth that many never fully believed. Maybe if more did, they would find themselves in this world much longer. "What you say is true, it's simply a matter of convincing my body to listen. Snowfall admitted with a smile on her face, her tail lightly brushing Valerianheart's pelt in welcome. He and his falcon had a knack for showing up exactly when they were needed the most by those who searched.

Amusement shone in her own piercing blue eyes, the Guru spoke another truth about time. "You've gotten much better with the words of wisdom since I last saw you, Val. Stuffy indeed though respect needs to be given where it is due." The moon was bright tonight and Snowfall took a few moments to admire the view from higher up as well as to enjoy the Guru's company.

Then more pressing matters took hold. Her body tensed as she prepared herself to deliver the news. Though Snowfall suspected that Valerianheart already knew. "The Guardian is getting worse. The Clans are already uneasy and if he passes, I fear for what AirClan will have to do to keep the peace. They need you to make an appearance, Val." The High Monk Councelor suddenly looked much older than her years. The weight of burdens upon her. The Council of AirClan did not know she had come here and she would not tell them. Even they were getting anxious and fearful. Snowfall turned her blue gaze to her old friend, "And so do I."

Sharpbeak continued to circle high in the cloudy sky, dark eyes ever watchful. Her wings flapped once, beating against the air before tucking against her body. The falcon dived down before stretching out her wings once more, feathers splaying as the wind pushed her up until she was steadily drifting to the ground. Talons stretched out to perch on a nearby ledge, and the falcon made herself comfortable, clearly not bothering herself with listening to their conversation.

"The body will follow the mind's lead. You must be patient with yourself if you wish to see results." He paused for only a moment before adding on, "of course, daily stretching helps, too. Keeps the joints loose." Another chuckle rumbled in his throat. Stretches made his almost daily climbs up and down the mountain more bearable. He was so sore for many moons when his mentor made him do his first climb. He had complained for days until he realized complaining was not going to get him any slack.

Blue eyes remained trained on the snowy she-cat for a moment more before he turned his attention to the land behind her. He shifted on his paws, making himself comfortable despite the lack of grass or moss. "And I'll keep getting better with time! Without all that cryptic mumbo jumbo like the old tomcat used to use, too." He could just imagine his mentor frowning from Starclan's hunting grounds. Slowly, he returned his gaze to Snowfall, silently observing the slight changes in her posture. She definitely needed to stretch.

"I will do what you wish of me, but do not expect positive results. Your clan, like the others, will only call for a new Avatar once more, something I cannot produce." Valerianheart let out a soft sigh, twitching his ears. The older tomcat slowly stood, taking a few steps before sitting down beside the high monk. "You will have to play your part to keep your clan in line for now. Let the Avatar and his Guardians live out their remaining few moons in relative peace. The cycle will continue soon."
