Quartzstar
PERSONALITY Abilities : Earth/Rock Tail L3, Detection L2 If there was one word to describe Quartzstar, it would be difficult. He is quite stubborn and likes to do things his own way. Those aren't necessarily the most desirable traits for a leader, but his persistent, determined attitude assists in fulfilling goals. He's flattered easily, but doesn't let compliments sway his opinions or beliefs. Although he can be stubborn, Quartzstar has a heart of gold. He is affable, loyal and would give his life (or lives) so his clanmates would be able to persist. In some cases, he may do things that might portray him as greedy, but in truth he doesn't mind helping/sharing things with others as long as it's within reason. Even so, he sometimes acts without thinking which can lead to issues. Quartzstar is outgoing and enjoys talking to and even teasing other cats. He can also be a bit of a flirt around she-cats. Even with his friendly exterior, the light-furred tom is serious about leading his clan (although he acts like it's a game sometimes) and wouldn't do something to purposefully harm them. His temper varies day to day, mostly depending on any previous events, and his behavior while angry would be best described as brash. HISTORY When Queen Arrowstar's first kitting proved successful, many cats were thrilled. Kits were always a blessing, but the main reason was that the Queen had no living siblings and wished to uphold the Clan's tradition of passing the title of King or Queen to kin. She and her mate had been very excited to have their litter, and the two could hardly contain their joy when the kits were finally born. The newborns were named Quartzkit, Pinekit, and Fenneckit. Out of the three, Quartzkit was the most troublesome. As soon as he could leave the den, he would constantly wander and follow warriors around the camp and even outside of it on some occasions. As expected, this led to issues on multiple instances. He did, eventually, learn his lesson when he followed a group of warriors right into an encounter with a fox. He was able to get away uninjured, but the scare was enough to stop him from leaving the camp before he was ready. When Quartzkit approached his sixth moon, he could barely hide his excitement. He would finally be able to leave the camp and begin his warrior training. His father, Beewhisker, was tasked in preparing the kits for apprenticeship since Arrowstar was organizing the ceremony. Later that evening, Quartzkit received his apprentice name, Quartzpaw, and was assigned a mentor. Quartzpaw's mentor was a strict tom named Copperstripe, who Quartzpaw would come to resent due to the older cat's assertive and pushy nature. Even during kithood, Quartzpaw's sibling, Pinepaw, was showing signs of being an earthbender, which got the cream-pelted tomcat more excited than ever to get an ability of any kind. But it also made him more aware that he may not get any bending abilities at all. Of course, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. There were plenty of nonbenders in EarthClan and they were treated just the same as any other cat. But the fact that Pinepaw knew whether she'd have powers or not got to Quartzpaw. He'd just have to wait for the time being. One day, Quartzpaw was battle training with Copperstripe. Everything was about as normal as any training session they'd had before then. But then, stone began forming at the apprentice's paws. Even with that happening and Quartzpaw growing more excited by the moment, Copperstripe didn't pause the battle. When the spar eventually ended, the ginger tabby confirmed that Quartzpaw was, in fact, an earthbender. The young cat felt a bit bad that Fennecpaw didn't know if she'd be a bender or not, but Quartzpaw was too excited for his abilities to let that get to him. Moons later, it was time for Quartzpaw, Pinepaw, and Fennecpaw to become warriors. All three of them were eager and their parents were proud at the progress their kits had made. Quartzpaw had received the name Quartzpelt, and his siblings Pinetail and Fennecskip. Eventually, Quartzpelt was given his first apprentice, Dunepaw. Quartzpelt did go a bit hard at times to help the apprentice do his best, and the work paid off. Dunepaw was given his warrior name, Dunestrike. Some time afterwards, Arrowstar called a clan meeting. Quartzpelt wasn't sure of what to make of it, since there hadn't been any ceremonies to hold or events that needed to be addressed. As soon as the subject of the meeting left Arrowstar's lips, Quartzpelt was as confused and surprised as any other cat in the camp, maybe even more than the others. He had been appointed as Duke. He didn't think he'd be cut out for the role, and he wasn't even the best at taking charge of his littermates. But he didn't argue with his mother's decision and took the role without question. Later that Greenleaf, Arrowstar and Beewhisker decided to go on a walk. This was something that the two cats did often, even more now that they were getting older. Quartzpelt didn't think much of this, as it was a usual thing for them to do. However, some time after the couple left camp, a pained screech rang through the territory. Quartzpelt rushed to the source of the sound as quickly as possible. As soon as he reached the scene he froze. Beewhisker's limp form was laying discarded to the side, while Arrowstar was fighting with all she had against a fox. Before Quartzpelt could join in on the fight, the fox had lifted the she-cat up and tossed her to the side. Suddenly, a surge of anger overtook Quartzpelt and before he knew it, he was blindly lashing out at the fox, using all the strategies he had learned. He hardly noticed when Pinetail and Fennecskip joined in. The fox ended up backing off, retreating into the forest. The warrior ran to his mother's side after ensuring the beast was gone. The she-cat's weak voice and shallow breathing were painful to listen to. "I love you three with all my heart, but it is my time to join the stars, though I feel it is too soon," she said, a hanging pause after every few words. She motioned Quartzpelt closer. "It is your turn now, Quartz...star." With those words, EarthClan's leader's last life drained away. Pinetail and Fennecskip looked as shocked and hurt as Quartzpelt felt. It felt strange, surreal almost, that the thing that would've killed him as a kit if he hadn't been with a group of warriors was the same thing that took the lives of his parents. The three warriors carried the bodies of their parents back to the camp, where a vigil was held and the cats were buried. After the vigil, Quartzpelt immediately began the journey to receive his title and lives from StarClan, not wanting to let any of his clanmates down. Ever since then, Quartzpelt held the title of King and did whatever he believed would be best for his clan. |
